Behind the Scenes

I chose to watch the behind the scenes dealing with the movie, Creed. I watched this movie a couple times and it is one of my favorite movies ever. I loved the intense feeling and there is nothing better than an underdog winning. Even though Creed didn't win he still fought hard and fought all twelve rounds with the Heavy weight champion. Michael B. Jordan was the one playing the character, Creed. He was fantastic in this film. He was the perfect fit for this movie and made the movie as good as it is. Also, Sylvester Stallone was very good as usually. He is one of my favorite actors. The intensity and attitude he brings in movies makes these movies very special. There wasn't a bad scene in this movie. The camera angles kept the viewers engaged and also made the viewers feel like they were a part of the movie. Overall, this movie was phenomenal and I would recommend this movie to anyone who hasn't seen it.

Now, I want to talk about what I learned from the behind of scenes from creed. I noticed that there was so much planning that goes into the little parts of the scene. For example, in one of the videos I watched I saw that Michael B. Jordan, the director, and Sylvester Stallone discussed for a few minutes about how "Creed" should get out of his corner and walk up to his opponent. Meanwhile the camera started right in front of Creeds face when he walked towards the middle of the mat. Also, I noticed that for the final fight there were camera people are around the mat would just act like they were taking pictures. Even though they weren't, and would just kneel down and act like they were the press. The final scene was by far the most important scene because it was scene that the whole entire film evolved around. To stage a crowd there were actors that sat in the first three rows of the film but behind those actors was just a big green screen. The director had to make it so the fight was well attended with thousands of people and I learned that a green screen is so important because it saves you from having to actually use thousands of actors.

As my Cinematography teacher said,"Filming is just like a sports team, it's a team effort". I totally agree with that statement because of all the individual jobs required to put a good film together. Just like sports teams, filming comes with lots of mistakes and retakes. One common mistake I saw was coming from Michael B. Jordan. Michael B. Jordan is not a boxer in real life so the director and assistants had to teach him how to box and look like he is a real boxer. Also, in this film it was crucial for the camera angles to be perfect to express the emotion throughout the film. The director had to make sure Michael B. Jordan was in line with the camera and the camera guy had to be able to film while he was moving. For example, this concept occurred during the scene when Michael B. Jordan was running with the dirt bikes behind him. The camera guy was filming this scene while in the back of a truck while driving. Many things could go wrong, the car could be going to fast, there could be a dirt bike malfunction, or the camera could lose it's angle due to the car going over a bump. I realize that the little things in film making cause many mistakes but are the most important part in terms of making good films.

I can't stress enough how important the preproduction to a film is. The film couldn't have happened at all if Michael B. Jordan wasn't fit and not on a strict diet. It was incredible to see what Michael B. Jordan had to do in order to become the fit character he needed to be for this film. In one of the behind the scenes videos, it explains what Michael B. Jordan had to do in order to be in the film. Also, like I said before teaching Michael B. Jordan how to fight was extremely important because if he didn't know how to look like a professional boxer the movie wouldn't have been successful. Mr. Muench taught me how important story boards are. Known of the videos were on story boards but their story boards showed through explanation before scenes. Before every scene there were disagreements and explanations occurring to make sure everyone is one the same page. Also, the planning of the actually fighting because there were fake punches being thrown. To be able to make it look like the boxers were being punched takes practice and repetition to make the fight look good. All in all, after watching the behind of scenes to this movie it gives me better knowledge of the work and preproduction I have to put in to make my own films successful. This has given me the information and challenge to help me build me own successful film.
